I keep thinking about stat blocks. I have two styles I’m working with at the moment but I think I like the second version better. I don’t like looking at tons of text in abilities on stat blocks and tags version is the better version for that. Plus, it allows for the idea of narrative context, which is paramount in the game, to shine through a little more.
Here’s the same stat block in two different forms
Priest of Hermes (Lvl 2)
Survivability 16
Armor 0
Harm 1d6+2 (Club)
Dodge 8 (10)
Attack 8 (10)
Mental 11 (13)
Physical 8
Abilities
Preacher. If the priest is speaking of the religion of Hermes they have a 13 for their mental score.
Action
Speed. The priest casts a spell to enchant themselves. It grants themselves the fast tag and a dodge and attack score of 10. If they cast this on another NPC it gives them the same enchantment. If cast on a PC it gives the fast tag and a +1 to agility for the scene.Priest of Hermes (Lvl 2)
Survivability 16
Armor 0
Harm 1d6+2 (Club)
Dodge 8
Attack 8
Mental 11
Physical 8
Abilities
Tags. Preacher, Studied Hermite
Action
Speed. The priest casts a spell to enchant themselves or someone else. It grants the Enhanced Speed and Agility tag.
With tags it just means an NPC who can apply one or more tags where a roll happens, they increases their Dodge, Attack, Mental, or Physical scores by 2. The GM can make it 3 if three or more tags apply. So I’ve been trying the second stat block more and it works better for me and utilized the tag system of the game more. I’m trending towards making that used as much as possible.
