When you see that green light coming from an alley you should turn around and walk the other way. Even just passing by it is more trouble than it’s worth. But if you need to go in, I’ve been told it starts as a wide walkway but quickly tapers to a close fitting and twisting alleyway. That’s when it goes from dangerous to are you trying to get yourself killed. You see, the alley’s namesake comes from the sickly pulsing green light emanating from the phosphorescent lichen, molds, and mushrooms, and I don’t think they much like people.

The Oddities & Dangers of Green Light Alley?

I’ve never been myself but a friend of mine told me the stuff growing in there makes people break out in rashes, sneeze uncontrollably, causes hallucinations, and makes folks feel drowsy and confused. I’ve heard it’s so bad that sometimes people go in and never come out.

To make things worse, folks who come out of the alley, and sometimes those who just pass by, often find fungal growths spreading on their clothing and skin. This causes burning, itching, and horrible coughing fits. If this happens to you please clean your clothes and get to a healer. We don’t need you spreading the green fungi around the city. What do I mean? Look, if the fungus isn’t cleaned and the body not healed correctly, in two or three days you’ll be nothing more than a mushy, mushroom and mold covered heap of a person, glowing with a pulsing greenish light.

Yeah, it’s horrible but there’s a chance you might live through it though, sort of. What do I mean? I mean, maybe you got the alley worms, if there are such things. I’ve never seen one but a friend of mine told me they’re fleshy, green, toothy mawed flat worms that burrow into your skin. It happens to folks who get lost and confused in the alley. If you get a worm you don’t die…well, maybe you do. My friend said you wander around leaking more worms out of your body and having a fierce hunger. If you don’t eat you rot. It’s like you’re eating for yourself and whatever worms are inside you. You also want to give other people worms. Something about joining the collective. But those are just stories, and my friend, he’s drunk more often than not. In fact, never mind what I said. It’s probably not real.

Stop Stop. Don’t ask that out loud even if it’s a good question. We don’t talk about doing something about Green Light Alley because people who talk about doing something tend to die or vanish. We think some powerful people have an interest in keeping it around. Probably something about the growths in the alley being valuable to Alchemists. High quality ingredients I’ve heard. My friend did say the rich ones even pay some nice coin for them, but I’d stay away. Even if I was desperate there’s less dangerous ways to make a few coin, like stealing from a Temple of Hermes.
